We learned a lot about emotions tonight on Healing with the Masters from one of the world’s renowned psychiatrist, Judith Orloff. She shared how so many of us are being impacted with emotional stress these days, and told us that our emotions are a path to our spiritual awakening. And we are capable of gaining mastery over our emotions because we always have a choice by how we respond to what shows up for us. When we’re emotionally free, we’re choosing to clear out the darkness within and create more light in our lives.
Judith said that the spiritual path is when we open our eyes, and start living. And that every person that comes into our lives is a teacher.
In order to have mastery over our emotions, we need to not engage in negativity, or dark energies. Rather, we need to outsmart any negativity that comes our way. During those moments of reaction, we should stop and witness ourselves. Look at what’s triggered us. While witnessing, deep breathing and getting centered will give us the ability to respond from a greater place.
Judith also said when we’re interacting with others, email isn’t the best platform to have a heart-to-heart because the tone can be too easily misinterpreted. It’s best to save these conversations for in person. Also, we need to understand that there is never a need for us to justify or explain ourselves. Simply stating what we need and being okay with setting limits at the level that works for us is what is most important.
Here’s a 3-minute mediation to open our hearts that Judith does during these times…
1. Settle in a peaceful place with no interruptions. In a cozy chair or in in a hot bath with candles all around. Make it as sensual as you like. Get very quiet. Relax your body. Slowly inhale. Then exhale. Your breath will bring you back to center.
2. Gently rest your palm over your heart. Concentrate on a person, place, song, or memory you love. You may want to start with nature. Visualize a sublime dawn. Or picture your puppy napping in your lap. If you prefer, focus on your higher power, whatever your definition. The purpose is to feel love in a general sense, then specifically as a localized energy in your chest.
3. Observe the sensations in your heart, dramatic or subtle. Heat. Coolness. Tingling. Vibration. Expansion. Bliss. Pressure releasing. Compassion. Let it happen. Don’t hold back. With time, you’ll feel a vortex of positive energy growing in your heart which spontaneously flows out into your body.

Known for keeping their cool in heated situations, they often struggle with emotions, don’t trust their guts, are slow to engage in anything light-hearted, sensual, or playful.”
“Empaths are highly sensitive, loving, and supportive. They are highly tuned instruments when it comes to emotions and tend to feel everything, sometimes to an extreme.”
“Gushers are in touch with their emotions and love to share them. No one has to wonder where they’re at. Gushers are able to quickly process negativity and move on. Their downside is that they tend to share “too much information” and over-sharing can burn people out.”
“Rocks are consistent, dependable, and stable; they will always show up for you. You can express emotions freely around them—they won’t get upset or judge. But they often have a hard time expressing their own feelings, and their mates are always trying to get them to express emotions.”
